Design: Contour Design Build

Located on the south side of Whidbey Island, the Island Forest House was designed with the simple concept of creating a modest single-story residence with a strong connection to the forested site. Two perpendicular volumes create a public space and a private space with a view corridor that connects the entry to the wooded area beyond. Maximizing natural light and maintaining a visual connection to the forest throughout the home were the main driving concepts during design. Cost was an equally important factor given the rising cost of construction, and we are hoping this project proves that thoughtful, site specific & sustainable design can still be achieved for a reasonable cost/sf.
